The Region 6 Comprehensive Center (RC6) serves three states in the southeast: Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Along with dynamic educators, resources and systems, these states also experience the challenges of modern public education: a growing urban-rural divide, increasing income and educational inequality, and consistently low-performing schools.
States, school districts and individual schools have to negotiate competing ideals —being comprehensive enough to serve all but flexible enough to respond to unique needs; progressive enough to keep pace with change but consistent in meeting every student in their need; and forward-thinking enough to lead students where they will need to be while understanding of historical contexts that have brought students where they are. The kind of technical assistance and capacity-building work needed for education to thrive among these competing notions isn’t within the scope of a single State Educational Agency, school district or school.
It takes a comprehensive center with uniquely experienced and skilled staff well-versed in educational reform in southern states. It takes the Region 6 Comprehensive Center. With a team of qualified and experienced school improvement professionals, the RC6 operates on a five-year plan through 2025. The goal is to provide high-quality intensive capacity-building services to State Educational Agencies (SEAs)clients and other recipients as they identify, implement and sustain EBPs). These services address four High-Leverage Problems, or as the RC6 refers to them as —High-Leverage Opportunities:
All students deserve to experience the very best of public education —the best schools, the best principals and the best teachers. Through no fault of their own, some students don’t have this access. Differences in financial, social-emotional and geographic resources create a widening gap between certain students and the best that educators have to offer. The Region 6 Comprehensive Center (RC6) at SERVE bridges this gap and makes excellence in education available far and wide.
